Vehicular parking for visitors at the South Goa district hospital has come back to haunt the authorities, with double parking on the main road outside the hospital becoming a norm than an exception with each passing day.
What has further aggravated the parking problem is that there is no systematic parking facility provided to the visitors outside the hospital compound wall, which is left inundated by water during monsoons.
Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai has slammed the double-engine government ruling the State for the problems plaguing parking outside the South Goa district hospital.
As citizens are forced to wade through waters to gain entry into the district hospital for lack of a drainage system outside the hospital, the Fatorda MLA said officials of the Health Department and the PWD, National Highways should work together instead of blaming each other for the parking problem.
“The hospital complex has parking facility for vehicles, but there is a problem at the entrance to the hospital during the monsoons. The parking area outside the compound wall is waterlogged and inundated with rain water. Both the Health Department and the NH should sit together and resolve the issues,” he said.
The Fatorda MLA pointed out that it’s now four years since the district hospital was commissioned by the government, the authorities are yet to designate taxi, rickshaw and motorcycle bays outside the hospital.
Local residents have complained that double parking on the main NH road by visitors to the hospital have aggravated traffic issues staring at motorists and pedestrians.
