Can the alliance between Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and the BJP survive the stringent demand by Sudin Dhavalikar that he will not compromise on the constituencies of Dabolim and Bicholim?
On Wednesday, Dhavalikar reiterated that his party was firm on contesting these two constituencies even though it is well known that the BJP is keen to field Mauvin Godinho in Dabolim and reserving Bicholim for its candidate.
Claiming that MGP has worked in these two constituencies for the last five years, Dhavalikar said, “We have asked for 14 seats. Negotiations are going on so I do not want to say anything more. But in two constituencies of Dabolim and Bicholim we have worked during the last five years. And MGP will not compromise on these seats.”
Bicholim is presently represented by Independent NLA Naresh Sawal and Dabolim is represented by Congress MLA Mauvin Godinho.
When asked about the present Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho who is likely to join BJP soon, he said, “It is my seat and we will contest on that seat.”
He, however, said that MGP intends to develop the State and continuing with the alliance will be favourable for the same.
“Presently we are in an alliance with BJP. The BJP government at the Centre has provided ample of financial assistance to us. So our decision to continue with the alliance will definitely be favourable for the development of the State,” said Dhavalikar.
Dhavalikar also stated that Goans are looking forward to development, which he said is not possible without assistance from the Centre.
“Goans want development when it comes to roads, water supply and sewerage among others. Presently, projects over Rs 5,000 crore have been taken up through the Sewerage Corporation and Rs 500 crore worth projects are underway under JICA. Additionally, nearly Rs 800 crore worth projects are on going in the municipal areas,” he said.
Stating that during the last several years the governments are just making promises, he said, “I am proud that PWD with the help of Manohar Parrikar and Nitin Gadkari have achieved the required target.”
When asked about Madkaikar, who Dhavalikar had claimed had MGP blood, he said, “I cannot comment on it right now. Newspapers have published news that he is joining BJP. Madkaikar has to take that decision.”
