Former tourism minister and Congress Vice President, Nilkant Halankar on Sunday said Tivim MLA, Kiran Kandolkar should put pressure on the police to identify who is the real “matka Kiran” to clear doubts in the minds of the people.

“People in Tivim are wondering who this 'matka Kiran' is. The Tivim MLA should ask his government to expedite the investigation to clear the misunderstanding in people’s mind,” Halarnkar said.

Halarnkar along with the office bearers of the Youth Congress was addressing a gathering of youth from his constituency in Tivim panchayat hall on Sunday.

He said acting on a High Court order probing illegal matka business in the State, the Crime Branch was on the lookout of one “matka Kiran”.

The Tivim MLA should come clean and pressurize the police to find the real “matka Kiran” to clear the misconception in people’s mind, the former tourism minister and probable Congress candidate in Tivim said.

Slamming the BJP for taking advantage of the poor to gain power, Halarnkar said it was time to dump the communal BJP and vote for a change in Tivim.

Quoting a Marathi idiom “ (people follow the king) “ he said in the last four years there was rise in gambling dens in Tivim constituency.

“There are at least three gambling dens in Pirna where gambling goes on uninterrupted,” he said.

He further said that the police had recently stopped a drug ring in Tivim.

South Goa District Congress, President, Zamir Ahmed said BJP-led government had failed on all fronts in the State.

“It is now time for the youth to decide the future of the State,” he said and added that the Youth Congress would soon start door-to-door campaign in the State.

Over 1,000 youth from Tivim constituency, boys and girls attended the meeting.

State NSUI, chief, Azar Mulla, Mapusa Youth Congress Block, president, Sudin Naik, Tivim Sarpanch, Shivdas Kambli and others were present at the meeting.
