The human body is a natural marvel that has evolved through a complex evolutionary process that suggests intelligence operating from behind. The evolution of the brain is a step forward in which Nature begins to communicate with the creative power at the heart of her operations. If the heart is the source of dynamic power that allows energy to flow to the organs, the brain directs the distribution of this energy in every detail. The brain communicates with all organ systems via a complex neural system that employs sophisticated impulse transmission techniques.
The crucial thing to remember is that the brain is continually changing, and despite what we know about its functioning today, there is still a lot we don’t know. The most crucial gap in our understanding is what guides the brain’s own processing. What gives thoughts definite form, what causes brain activity to be translated into conscious cognition and emotional experience? Where exactly is the source of our will and faith, which ultimately guides our actions? While science waits for these breakthroughs, enough information is already available to help us live a better, healthier, and happier life.
Thus, the brain, like any other organ, need rest. Meditation is the science of resting the brain and rejuvenating it from weariness. Contrary to popular opinion, contemporary research shows that brain connections continue to build throughout life, and it is a good idea to develop the habit of reading and engaging in demanding tasks and puzzles to maintain the brain active till old age. Similarly, a healthy diet, regular exercise, proper sleep, various forms of pranayama, and de-stressing enhance brain health. Let us finally cleanse the instrument brain by filling it with beautiful high and inspiring thoughts. After all, the brain is an instrument, similar to a computer, and what we feed it is what we get out.
Given the complex interplay between neurological and psychological challenges, World Brain Day assumes critical importance in addressing these issues comprehensively. The five main goals of World Brain Day align closely with the needs.
Awareness
Raising awareness about brain health is vital. Initiatives to educate the public about the risk factors for strokes, hypertension, depression, and substance abuse can empower individuals to take preventive measures and seek timely medical intervention.
Prevention
Neurological and psychological disorders are often preventable or manageable with appropriate medical care and lifestyle modifications. Encouraging healthy habits, early diagnosis, and regular health check-ups can significantly reduce the burden of brain-related ailments in the region.
Access
Ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare, treatment, rehabilitation, and assistive technology is crucial to address the needs of those affected by brain disorders. Investment in healthcare infrastructure and the availability of specialized services, particularly for neurological and mental health conditions, are essential to improve health outcomes.
Education
Promoting education and awareness about cognitive impairments fosters inclusivity and equality for individuals facing such challenges. By dispelling stigma and misconceptions surrounding mental health, the State can create a supportive environment for those living with neurological and psychological disorders.
Advocacy
Advocacy efforts can play a pivotal role in garnering support and resources for tackling brain-related issues effectively. By highlighting the significance of brain health, Goa can rally global efforts to prioritize brain disorders as high-priority areas for disease control and research.
