Advocate assault: FIR against 10 for attack during court-ordered demolition in Morjim
PANAJI: Mandrem Police have registered an FIR against 10 persons for allegedly assaulting advocate Ankur Kumar in Morjim during the implementation of a court-ordered demolition of an allegedly illegal coastal structure on Friday.
According to the complaint, Kumar was allegedly attacked by a group armed with rods and stones while facilitating the implementation of Supreme Court and High Court orders at a property in Morjim. He reportedly sustained a fractured eye socket, nose injuries, bleeding and other wounds, and was admitted to hospital for treatment. His car was also allegedly damaged during the assault.
The demolition was being carried out after the dismissal of the final appeal in the case, clearing the way for the removal of the allegedly illegal coastal structures in compliance with Supreme Court and Bombay High Court directions.
Police have registered the case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation. While three accused have been identified, efforts are underway to trace the remaining persons named in the FIR.
