The Cujira road, which was last hotmixed 20 years back, began getting another coat of hotmix on Saturday, with St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes inaugurating the work in
the presence of Santa Cruz Sarpanch Disha Kavlekar, panchas, PWD officials and others.
A local, Menino Araujo, thanked the local MLA for fulfilling the demand of the locals to hotmix the road which did not happen since the past 20 years.
Speaking to the media, MLA Fernandes thanked PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar for approving hotmixing of roads in his constituency.
“This tender costs Rs 70 lakh and will cover Cujira as well as Alto Santa Cruz,” Fernandes informed and added that later roads at St Caitan, Bamon Bhatt and Fonsa Bhat will be taken up in Merces which will be followed by hotmixing of roads in Chimbel.
“All roads in St Cruz constituency will be taken up for hotmixing before the onset of monsoon,” he added.
Fernandes also took the opportunity to chide at local politicians who are trying to take credit for the works undertaken by him.
The MLA also informed that a police outpost has also been approved at Santa Cruz, for which a work order has already been given at a cost of Rs 89 lakh. “However, since there was a single tender, the work on the outpost has been delayed,” he added.
Sarpanch Disha Kavlekar and local panch Prasad Naik also spoke at the event.
Assistant Engineer Datta Naik, Panchas Indira Fernandes, Lawrence Rodrigues and Namdev Naik were also present at the function.
