After 3-yr delay, water treatment plant to be built at Pilerne

After a three-year delay, the PWD has awarded the tender for the construction of a water treatment plant at Pilerne to the Geo Miller and Company Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi.

Raw water for this project will be supplied from the Tillari dam.

The foundation stone for the water treatment plant had been laid by then PWD minister Deepak Pauskar in the presence of Calangute MLA Michael Lobo in June 2021. There has been considerable delay in the execution of this project.

“The Water Resources Department has already completed the construction of a water storage tank of 7 MLD capacity at the Pilerne Industrial estate. Since the WRD could not get land of bigger area,” said a source from the PWD.

“The estimated cost of the water treatment plant is Rs 31.89 crore and a file of this project has been sent to the finance department for expenditure sanction and approval. Once the approval from the finance department is received, the work order to the company will be issued.”

“The project is expected to be completed within 18 months from the release of the work order. The company will be responsible to maintain the plant for five years,” the source said.

Once the water treatment plant is commissioned, the potable water from this plant will be supplied to Verem, Reis Magos, parts of Pilerne Industrial Estate, Pilerne and a part of Calangute constituency.
