Two unidentified individuals attacked Vijayan Thottarayath, a native of Kerala but residing at Aravalem, Cortalim near the Loto Garage at Santrant-Cortalim, in what is suspected to have been motivated by business rivalry.
According to the complaint filed at Verna Police Station, the attackers, aged between 20 and 30 years, intercepted Vijayan's vehicle with their car at around 5.10 am.
The complainant, who was driving his car towards Margao, was forced to stop after the accused blocked his path with their car.
The two accused in face masks were armed with an iron pipe and damaged the windshield of Vijayan's car.
Both men brutally assaulted Vijayan with iron pipes, targeting his right thigh, wrist, and head, leaving him with serious injuries.
The assailants also robbed Vijayan of his valuables, including a Samsung Galaxy Fold mobile phone, Rs 10,000 in cash, and a gold chain. The total value of the stolen items is estimated to be Rs 2 lakh.
Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was motivated by business rivalry. Verna Police have registered a case under sections 126(2), 309(6) r/w 3(5) of the BNS 2023 Act. The investigation is being led by PSI Ramchandra Naik under the supervision of PI Melson Colaco and DySP Gurudas Kadam.
