Before a team of Naval divers could arrive at the spot for the second time in two days, upon instructions of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar after the issue was taken up by TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai, the body of the young lad was recovered by the duo with the help of a hook, bringing a sigh of relief after 48 hours.
Francis Barretto from Sanguem who had in the past assisted in recovering bodies in drowning incidents, told the media that he and Badshaa tried to locate the body of the deceased with the help of a hook made available by the fire services.
“When I descended in the water, I found it too deep, more than 25 metres deep, and hence asked the people around to get a bamboo and a hook. We calculated the distance from the place where the deceased had slipped to ascertain the distance where the body must have reached. Our strategy succeeded when the hook helped to locate the body
before it was fished out,” Francis said.
Both Francis and Badshaa said they had helped in recovering dead bodies upon being called by their friends and well wishers. “I must have helped to recover around 115 bodies in areas such as Valpoi, Sakhalim, Dudhsagar, Navelim and other places,” Francis added.
After the body was fished out, Margao PI C L Patil sent a message to the Naval divers not to dispatch a fresh team of divers to conduct the search operations.
