Post the murder of a resident of Aquem outside the Aquem side of the Margao railway station, the Goa police has finally woken up to the fact there’s a curfew in force in the state.
After district police chief, SP Pankaj Kumar Singh personally saw for himself how gaddas were all open outside the Aquem side of the railway station after the murder of Sachit Borkar, the Margao police has cracked the whip on omlette-paav and other late night business activities in the commercial capital.
Thursday saw the Margao police issuing strict instructions to the omlette-pav gaddas at the Margao Old bus stand to shut down the business activity at 9 pm. Given that the instructions were issued only today, the gaddas were found operating well around 9.30 pm.
Sources, however, said the police has left strict instructions to the omlette-pav gadda owners to shut down the operations by 9 pm or face action for violating the District Magistrate’s order issued under section 144 of the CrPC. The Magistrate’s order has warned of action under section 188 of the IPC, besides other provision of law in the event of violation of the curfew guidelines.
The 47-year old Sachit Borkar was assaulted at an omlette-pav gadda outside the Margao railway station following an altercation with one Laxman Chawan. Police said the accused in a fit of anger slapped the victim, who landed on the ground on his head and sustained head injuries. The police had also charged the accused for assaulting the victim with plastic chair.
