The Chimbel Primary Health Centre (PHC) conducted a cleanliness cum awareness drive in Chinchwada-Chimbel on Friday, due to detection of fresh dengue cases in the area.
Chimbel PHC Medical Officer Dr Jude D’Souza, entomologist Dr Nandini Korgaonkar, health staff, members of Chimbel village, health and sanitation committee, and others participated in the drive.
At the drive, many breeding sites were found in small containers like plastic bottles, vases, coconut shells, etc.
“The cleanliness drive was held as several fresh dengue cases have been detected in Chinchwada. During the drive, we observed that the surroundings of houses, establishments, buildings, etc were not kept clean due to which breeding of mosquitoes was observed,” Dr D’Souza said.
“It is important for people to understand that they need to keep their surroundings clean so that mosquitoes breeding sites are avoided. Only then will we be able to keep a check on vector borne diseases like dengue,” Dr D’Souza informed.
Dr D’Souza further sought active support of the panchayat authorities in helping the health authorities to conduct such cleanliness drive on a regular basis.
“The Chimbel panchayat authorities need to play an active role so that diseases like dengue are kept at bay,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dr D’Souza informed that notices will be issued to several households and establishments where water stagnation was found.
