Barely hours after the fatal road mishap at the Varunapuri junction, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Monday held a joint inspection of the accident-prone area along with South Goa Collector Ashwin Chandru and officials of Navy, PWD, Highways, police, traffic police and other departments to work out a solution to prevent road mishaps in the area.

Later speaking to reporters, Salkar said rumblers have been planned at the junction to prevent vehicles, especially loaded heavy vehicles, from overspending on the route.

“Following the fatal accident late Sunday night which led to the death of a defence employee, I spoke to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and called for a joint inspection with the South Goa Collector and other departments to work out a solution,” said Salkar.

“This is a busiest spot on the highway and a densely populated area along the road and while the port connectivity bridge is beautiful, we need some improvements like rumblers, widening of by-lanes, ban on roadside parking, etc.”

After the joint inspection, Salkar said they had reached a consensus and the South Goa collector would issue orders on Monday itself to have rumblers to slow down traffic.
