The Trinamool Congress made a big entry into Benaulim on Sunday as the party welcomed renowned producer and director of Konkani tiatr Tony Dias into the party along with over 200 civil society members, social activists, artistes, women and grassroots leaders.
At a programme at Benaulim, Tony said that he decided to embrace the TMC after his supporters and well wisher gave him the nod to join the party, saying that Mamata Banerjee is the only one who can destroy the BJP.’
Tony was one of the key philanthropists who extended financial aid, free ambulance service and other medical facilities during the Covid pandemic. “I joined the Goa Trinamool Congress because I had complete conviction in the party’s vision for Goa. Mamata Banerjee’s modesty, honesty and determination for defeating the BJP was my driving force”, he said.
TMC leader Derek O’Brien received an overwhelming response when he said, “I have taken a house here in Goa. I am staying here till 2024 until we say goodbye to Modi, Shah and the Congress party.”
Star power for TMC in the State?
PANAJI: Is TMC looking to add star power to its campaign? Senior party leader Derek O’Brien’s meeting with singer Lucky Ali and actor and activist Nafisa Ali has set rumour mills abuzz in the state about the two joining Mamata Banerjee’s party ahead of the Goa elections.
O’Brien, who has been camping in Goa, told News18 that not only politicians, “we are meeting people from all walks of life, specifically civil society, so you will see people from everywhere joining TMC”.
After their meeting, Nafisa Ali posted a picture on Instagram with a caption expressing happiness that Banerjee had decided to contest from Goa.
“India needs vibrant leader and am happy that Mamata Banerjee has decided to contest from Goa.” She also stressed that Goa needs a good leader “who can think of the future”.
