The Agarwada Biodiversity Management Committee (ABMC) has complained to the Goa State Biodiversity Board about large-scale sand extraction at night in the Chapora River along the Agarwada-Chopdem panchayat area.

The ABMC stated that large-scale sand extraction had been going on in the Terekhol rivers in Pernem taluka for the past few years.

However, sand extraction in the Terekhol river has been temporarily closed in the areas of Keri Terekhol-Palye, Kiranpani, Korgaon, Konadi, Porskade, Ugvem and Torsem.

However, large-scale sand extraction is currently going on at night in the Chapora river along the Agarwada-Chopdem panchayat area.

ABMC Chairman and former sarpanch Amol Raut has complained that the sand extraction is having an impact on the environment.
