Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte made water pumps available through the WRD department to traditional salt cultivators in Agarwada-Pernem to dry out their salt pans.
When contacted, the salt cultivators said rainwater would accumulate in their salt pans after the monsoons.
“For several years, the WRD would give us pumps to pump out the water. Last year, these pumps were not available and so there was no production of local salt,” said a salt cultivator.
“We then reported this matter to GTDC Chairman and local MLA Dayanand Sopte. He gave us full support and got the pumps from the WRD to dry our salt pans,” the cultivator added.
Former sarpanch Amol Raut, salt cultivators Bhagwan Parab, Sanjay Bagli, Anand Korgaokar, Hanumant Bagli and Sadguru Parab were present when the MLA made the pumps available.
