Talathis of various panchayats in Ponda taluka have been asked to prepare a list of trees leaning precariously on roads and houses, while contractors and other agencies were told to complete their works on roads by Thursday evening.

This was decided at a Disaster Management Committee meeting, headed by the deputy collector, on Thursday to discuss preparations ahead of the monsoons.

Navanath Naik, who holds additional charge as deputy collector, had convened a meeting in his office and Joint Mamlatdar Abhir Hede, BDO Prasiddh Naik, officials of PWD, WRD and other departments concerned were present.

In Ponda city, several works involving digging of roads for sewerage and gas pipeline laying are underway and the contractors were told to finish the work till Thursday evening and restore the roads.

“No excuses will be given. You have to restore the roads by this evening or else, action will be taken,” Navanath Naik told the agencies and contractors digging the roads.

Speaking to media persons Naik informed that control room to attend calls in regards to any disaster has been setup and all have been informed to take precautionary measures.

“Talathis of various panchayats in Ponda taluka have been asked to prepare a list of trees leaning on roads and houses. The BDO will then pick up this list from talathis and necessary action will be taken,” he said.

Naik also said his office will keep a check on pre-monsoon works.

“Offices concerned have been told to clean the gutters and complete the pre-monsoon work. We will keep a check on this,” said Naik.
