The delegation drew attention of the Minister to the hardships being faced by the local people staying in the immediate vicinity of the shopping mall. In a memorandum submitted to the Minister, the residents pointed out that the mega mart housed in a four-storied building has a provision for underground parking facility only for 40 vehicles. "The parking provision in the building should be reviewed to find out whether it conforms to the norms in force. Customers visiting the mall park their vehicles either along the main road side or on the internal roads, chocking the roads and inconveniencing the local residents," they pointed out, while demanding that the Minister look into the issue of licences being issued to the mall by the Margao Municipal Council.
A resident of Aquem, Andrew Sequeira later told the media that movement of ambulance and fire brigade along the road would be the most hit during peak hours with traffic jam being order of the road near the Vishal mega mart mall. "We have called on the TCP Minister with a plea to find out an answer to the issue. We also feel that the TCP Minister should review the parking norms for mega shopping malls with a number of such shopping centres making their way in the State," Andrew said.
The TCP Minister immediately instructed Traffic cell PI Mohan Gawde to depute traffic personnel to regulate the traffic flow near the Vishal mega mart. He told PI Gawde to have an immediate meeting with the mall management and the security to take care of the parking requirements.
