CANACONA
After using a damaged decades-old footbridge, motorists travelling along the northern end of the world-famous Agonda beach can now look forward to a new double span culvert bridge.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant laid the foundation stone for the new 6-metre double span culvert bridge over the Agonda River in the presence of Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, Khola ZP Shanu Velip and Agonda Sarpanch Badal Naikgaunkar.
The box-type double span culvert bridge with approach roads on both sides will be built at a cost of Rs 62.5 lakh and will have a performance guarantee of 270 days once constructed.
At present, motorists continue to use the old footbridge, popularly known as the ‘Borim bridge’, which has been damaged and is tilted on one side.
An improved ‘Borim bridge’ has been one of the many promises during the panchayat, ZP and assembly elections since the last two decades.
Fernandes, who had also assured to construct a bridge for motorists across the Agonda River, thanked the chief minister for allotting necessary funds for the project.
