A young cybercriminal has been taken into custody by Goa Police’s cyber crime cell (CCC) for allegedly duping a bank customer to the tune of Rs 9 lakh. After several days of camping and personal verification of the accused, the team arrested Bhimabhai Jivabhai Keshwala from his native town in Ahmedabad.
Details shared by Superintendent of Police (CCC) Nidhin Valsan states that Keshwala impersonated an employee of a private bank and induced the complainant victim to install an application to ascertain transactions for upgrading his credit card. In doing so, a whopping amount of Rs 9 lakh was transferred into the account of the accused which never came back, prompting the man from South Goa to lodge a complaint with the Cyber police.
“The accused impersonated Citi Bank staff and led the complainant to install a malicious application to authenticate transactions from the bank account under the pretext of upgrading the credit card. The accused was arrested after painstaking efforts and detailed oriented investigation which involved camping for days in Ahmedabad,” Valsan said.
Keshwala has a history of financial fraud with another case of fake currency registered against him in Gujarat.
