All India Congress Committee on Friday approved the proposal of the constitution of state and district coordination committees, the appointment of AICC observers to launch digital membership drive and to oversee the effective overhaul of organization and reconstitution of the party’s units in Goa with immediate effect.
The 15-member state coordination committee will be led by Ramakant Khalap as the chairman and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco as the co-chairman. It may be noted that the names of former Chief Ministers Pratapsing Raoji Rane and Ravi Naik were conspicuous in their absence fr the list of members of the state coordination committee.
The South District Coordination Committee will include Subhash Faldessai, Joe Dias, Julio Fernandes, Assuciana Rodrigues and Muchell Rebello. The North District Coordination Committee will include Amarnath Panjikar, Vijay Bhike, Pratap Gawas, Shiny Oliveira and Victor Gonsalves.
Prakash Rathod has been named as the AICC observer for Goa, Sunil Hanumannavar as the South Goa AICC observer and Mansoor Khan as the North Goa AICC observer.
The whole exercise at strengthening the party appears to be an outcome of the submission of resignation mid-December last year, for the second time, by Goa Congress President Girish Chodankar, which has yet to be accepted officially. Girish had offered to step down as GPCC president following Congress' debacle at the recently conducted Zilla Panchayat polls, wherein Congress bagged mere four seats as against BJP's 33.
Girish, however, is among the members of the state coordination committee appointed by the AICC. The othe rmmebrs include Digambar Kamat, Luizinho Faleiro, Francisco Sardinha, Alexio Sequira, M K Sheikh, Altinho Gomes, Sankalp Amonkar, Dominic Fernandes, Chandrakant Chodankar, Sangita Parab, Dr Pramod Salgaonkar, Dharma Chodankar and Shambhu Bandekar.
