The All India Malayalee Association (AIMA) dispatched its second consignment of materials collected through AIMA Goa as part of relief aid to the Kerala victims.
The consignment was handed over to naval officials in the presence of Rear Admiral Philipose G Pynumootal FOGA, Navy Goa and Mormugao Dy Collector Mahadev Aruondekar.
According to AIMA, Pynumootal and Arondekar visited the stockyard to see the flood relief work being carried out by AIMA in the last few days.
The second consignment of flood relief items collected from Goa through All AIMA- Goa unit were dispatched to Kochi by the Navy.
According to AIMA National Vice President T Ravishankar, approximately 13 tons of material worth about Rs 22 lakh donated by various organizations , institutions, churches and individuals throughout Goa were dispatched on Tuesday.
“The first consignment of approximately 10 tons costing Rs 15 Iakh was despatched on Sunday through INS Sharada and it reached Kochi on Monday night. The third consignment will be sent soon,” said Ravishankar.
Ravishankar also informed that loading of the second consignment completed on Tuesday night onboard INS Deepak at Karwar, which sailed out for Kochi.
“As per information communicated by FOGA, essential relief materials like medicines, clothes, food items, footwear, mineral water, cleaning materials etc handed over to AIMA Goa by various organisations, clubs, institutions and individuals from all over Goa and sent on Sunday through INS Sharsda reached the Kochi naval base on Monday,” he said.
“The AIMA Goa has coordinated with the Kerala covernment and relief centres functioning under the district collector. The relief materials will be distributed to various flood relief camps in Kerala, as per requirements in the respective centres,” he added.
