Noted trade union leader A F G Mascarenhas passed away on Friday at his residence in Navelim. He was 93.
Condoling his death, AITUC Goa Deputy General Secretary R D Mangeshkar said in a statement that AFG passed away at his residence in Navelim on International Workers’ Day.
AFG was a founder member of the Government Employees Union, Goa, and also founder of the Electricity Employees Union, Goa. He was associated with AITUC Goa as an office-bearer for over five decades.
He was the Vice-President of the All India Electricity Employees Federation, affiliated to AITUC, till 2022. AFG participated in various wage settlements with the Government of Goa for the benefit of electricity employees in the state.
While condoling his death, Mangeshkar said, “Because of his illness, he was away from the movement, but he was always concerned about it.”
He said AFG was a life member of the CPI and followed the party ideology till his last breath.
