Fr Eusebio Fernandes, a priest of Goan origin, was felicitated on the occasion of the Ruby Jubilee of his priesthood during a solemn and faith-filled celebration at St Sebastian Church, Santibaswad, Belagavi.

He was instrumental in construction of this church with contributions from people across Belagavi, Goa and other places.

Twelve married couples, many of them of Goan origin, were also honoured on the occasion for celebrating their Ruby and Silver wedding jubilees.

Archbishop of Bangalore Peter Machado presided over the Eucharistic celebration, followed by the felicitation programme, while Bishop of Belagavi Derek Fernandes concelebrated the Eucharist and participated in the celebrations.

Hailing from Assolna in South Goa, Fr Eusebio Fernandes has been serving the Diocese of Belagavi for over four decades in various capacities. He also served as the administrator of the diocese for nearly two years.

Known for his disciplined style of functioning and strict adherence to Church guidelines, Fr Fernandes is widely respected across Karnataka as a perfectionist and a dedicated pastor.

During the solemn Eucharistic celebration, Fr Eusebio renewed his priestly vows, while the jubilarians renewed their sacred marriage vows in the presence of clergy, religious and faithful. A large gathering of parishioners attended the celebration.

In their messages, Archbishop Machado and Bishop Fernandes reflected on the beauty and sanctity of married life and encouraged couples to remain rooted in faith, love and mutual understanding. The bishops also paid glowing tribute to Fr Eusebio Fernandes for his tireless and exemplary service to the Church.

Archbishop Machado particularly noted that priests of the Bangalore Archdiocese regard Fr Fernandes as a guiding light and a source of inspiration because of his commitment, discipline and pastoral leadership.
