PERNEM
Deputy Chief Minister and Pernem MLA Babu Ajgaonkar has accused five panchas of Korgao of backstabbing him ahead of the elections.
On Sunday, Mission for Locals Rajan Korgaonkar had organised a public meeting in Korgao in an attempt to stake claim to the BJP ticket from the Pernem constituency for the upcoming elections.
He was accompanied on the dais by loyal Babu supporters ZP member Ranganath Kalshavkar and five Korgao panchas, Uday Palyekar, Custan Coelho, Abdul Naik, Vasant Desai and Mahadev Palyekar.
Upset over their association with Korgaonkar, Ajgaonkar told reporters at a news conference that the five Korgao panchas had got all their work done through him.
“Now, they have stabbed me in the back with elections right around the corner. They will have to answer the public in due time. Such people will not be welcomed again in my camp," said Ajgaonkar.
He also accused the five panchas of failing to keep their word when it was mutually agreed to share the sarpanch’s post equally between Swati Gawandi and Pramila Desai.
Incidentally, just before Swati Gawandi completed her term as Sarpanch, a no-confidence motion was passed by a five-member panel.
"There have been local candidates before and if the panchas now want to support another local candidate they should consider why other local candidates were also rejected by voters," Ajgaonkar added.
