Several seasonal waterfalls in full flow across Sattari taluka have attracted a large number of visitors, but they would have to be mindful about a ban on the use of alcohol and plastic at the sites.
A decision to ban alcohol and plastic at waterfalls in Sattari taluka was taken at a meeting of officials convened by Deputy Collector Pradeep Naik.
During the meeting, it was pointed out that a number of visitors have been found causing a nuisance by drinking alcohol and discarding plastic waste at the waterfalls.
These unruly visitors have been accused of misbehaving with locals and other tourists, creating law and order problems in the process.
Naik directed the officials to take precautions to curb garbage and other unruly incidents around the waterfalls.
Valpoi Excise Inspector Vibhuti Shirodkar informed that vehicles would be checked at all areas around waterfalls at Chorla Ghat and action would be taken against those found drinking alcohol.
Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary Range Officer Prakash Salelelkar also stated that drinking alcohol and using plastic at the waterfalls has been banned.
When contacted, Valpoi Police Inspector Shivram Vaigankar said that security would be maintained on all roads leading to waterfalls and added that unruly incidents would not be tolerated.
“Tourists who enjoy the waterfalls in Sattari taluka need not worry about any law and order problems,” said PI Vaingankar.
