Barely 10 days after seizing alcohol worth Rs 8 lakh, excise officials at Pernem intercepted another vehicle on Wednesday and seized alcohol worth Rs 17 lakh from an interstate truck.
According to reports, a Gujarat-registered truck was proceeding from Margao to Gujarat when excise officials led by Surekha Gohar stopped the truck for a check on Wednesday.
The Excise team found sacks containing coconuts in the front portion of the cargo whereas the rear end was filled with boxes of beer, rum and whiskey, valued at Rs 17 lakh.
Authorities then arrested the driver Virendra Kumar of Gujarat and the cleaner, while also seizing the lorry and the alcohol.
“Investigations are in progress to reveal the destination of this vehicle and recipients of the alcohol,” said Gohar.
The other team members in the team involved in the seizure included PSI Damodar Lolyekar, Digambar Kunkolienkar, Bindesh Pednekar, Arjun Gawas, Nitesh Malvankar, Vasant Naik, Prasad Naik, Nitin Parab, Dashrath Tari and Sarvesh Naik.
