Upset that Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo was ignored for a berth in the cabinet, the sarpanchas and panch members of Aldona constituency stated that the Aldona MLA was elected on his personal charisma and not only because of the party.
“People are disappointed that he’s not been considered for the post of a minister,” said Freddy Fernandes, deputy sarpanch of Nachinola.
The deputy sarpanch was speaking at a press conference organized by the four panchayats of Aldona.
Continuing further, Fernandes said the Aldona BJP mandal should take up the matter with the party and ensure that justice was done.
“The government should give him a berth in the cabinet as parliamentary election is drawing close and voters may channelize their anger at the ballot box,” he said.
Pomburpa Panch Gamlin Fernandes said senior party men should know that Glen Ticlo was not elected only on the party symbol. “The Aldona MLA was elected not only because of the party, but because of his charisma too,” Fernandes said.
Treading a cautious line, panch members said they were not against the party decision but only wanted the party to know the pulse of the people of Aldona.
According to Savio Martins, sarpanch of Bastora, during the campaign meetings of 2017, Manohar Parrikar had promised to make Ticlo a minister if re-elected.
“But since the coalition was formed with much difficulty, we did not protest. But today, there are two other MLAs in Bardez, besides Francis D’Souza. The party should have considered at least one of them,” he said.
Moira Sarpanch Rhea Belekar and Nachinola Sarpanch, Trupti Bandodkar also spoke.
The Bastora sarpanch informed that the Aldona sarpanch and panch members could not make it for the press briefing, as they were busy in their fortnightly meeting.
