MAPUSA: Expressing happiness at the order dismissing the managing committee of the Comunidade Fraternal de Aldona, the group of gaunkars who had petitioned before the Administrator of Communidades of North Zone acknowledged the Aldona MLA’s “help” to resolve the issue.

“Our MLA Glenn Souza Ticlo has been very instrumental in helping us out to get this issue solved. Whenever we went to him he helped us and we are grateful to him. He helped us in the government to get orders and in several other ways,” said Floyd D’Souza, a gaunkar.

D’Souza along with Constantino Chagas Carvalho and other gaunkars were addressing the media outside the comunidade building on Saturday.

Continuing, D’Souza said the gaunkars had nothing personal with anyone and there was no intention to politicize the issue.

“Any MLA of the day is the MLA of Aldona be it BJP, Congress or anybody. Tomorrow if we have a Congress or AAP MLA we will go with him because development is with the MLA,” he said.

When asked about their thoughts on the recently passed Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill, they said appropriate decision will be taken at the right time.

“The bill has been passed and the governor has not signed it. It is still not notified. When it happens, we will act. We have seen the whole of Goa is doing what is right,” D’Souza said.

Constantino Chagas Carvalho, who represented the group of component members of Comunidade Fraternal de Aldona before the Administrator of Communidades of North Zone, said the managing committee had sold one of the prime properties of the comunidade.

“Instead of siding with us the managing committee sided with the perpetrators. They used comunidade lawyers to fight us. The property they sold was marked as a traditional football ground,” Carvalho said.

He said they had provided all documents to the managing committee to unravel the fraud but they refused to do so.

“They could have acted on the complaint of the gaunkars but they chose to go against the gaunkars and fought against us. They sided with the fraudsters,” he said.

The Comunidade Fraternal de Aldona has around 800 gaunkars.
