In a veiled threat to corrupt bureaucrats, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira on Tuesday said that there was no scope for “commission” while carrying out development and officials will get a free hand to produce quality works.

Ferreira also said that goondagiri will never be allowed in Aldona which was once known for being a peaceful village and that he would ensure to restore its former pride.

“I have told the engineers that I will give you a free hand. Please don’t come to me for commission or anything like this. I want good quality work otherwise you will be hanged for it. I made this very clear (to the officials),” Ferreira said.

The Aldona MLA was addressing the media while inaugurating the hotmixing of the main road from Moira Bridge to Bastora Tar junction in Aldona constituency. The estimated cost of the hotmixing was around Rs 84 lakh.

Continuing, Ferreira said that he would ensure all development works were carried forward without any impediment and for the good of every segment of the society.

He said all roads, even the internal ones, will have to be repaired so that even the marginalised get proper access to their doorstep.

“Not only highways and main roads but even small internal roads will have to be constructed and repaired. I will sit with the engineers and prepare a list…I will put a proposal and see that the road works are passed,” he said.

He further said that crucial works will be taken up on priority before the onset of monsoon and to overcome the code of conduct which will come into effect for the impending panchayat election.

Ferreira said there was no scope for goondagiri in Aldona which is known as a peaceful village.

“A lot of artists and writers come to Aldona. They love the peaceful environment of the village. We should promote good things in Aldona,” he said.

He said that crimes happen because the youth were jobless.

“Let’s help the youth so that they remain busy. Let us provide jobs to them,” he said
