The St Thomas Parish at Aldona on Tuesday hosted a thanksgiving celebration and felicitation programme in honour of Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao, a son of the soil, on his elevation as Cardinal by Pope Francis on August 27.
Cardinal Ferrao was the main celebrant at the solemn Eucharistic celebration and the concelebrants were the Parish Vicar Fr Tomas Lobo, Asst Parish Priest Fr Michael Fernandes, Fr Caitan Dsouza, Fr Jeronimo Afonso, Fr Mariano Proenca, Fr Gualberto D’Sousa, Fr George Aguiar, Fr Jerard Sahayaraj MSFS and Fr Jose Maria Rodrigues SFX.
This was followed by a felicitation programme which began with a prayer dance performed by the catechism children based on the hymn ‘Somi Mhozo Gonvlli’, with the lyrics composed by Fr Tomas Lobo.
The parish choir and the children’s choir ‘Sweet voices of St Thomas’, trained and directed by Fr Tomas Lobo, enthralled the congregation with their enchanting music and voices.
‘Ecce Sacerdos Magnus’, composed and arranged by Late Camilo Xavier and sung in acapella style, was sung by the choir. ‘Follow me’, ‘Tim Sogllim Ek Zaum’ and ‘You are a shepherd’, composed by Fr Tomas Lobo, were also sung by the choir under the guidance of the Director Fr Tomas Lobo.
A parishioner, Jovi Dsouza, later shared his thoughts about the Cardinal.
Fr Tomas Lobo presented a ‘Spiritual Bouquet’, a collection of spiritual exercises in the form of Rosaries, Masses and sacrifices done and offered by the parishioners to Cardinal Ferrao.
Asst Parish Priest Fr Michael Fernandes presented a memento as a token of love and appreciation to the Cardinal. A portrait prepared by Karina Fernandes of Cardinal Ferrao was also presented.
Cardinal Ferrao expressed his happiness and gratitude for the prayers offered for him. He also spoke on the Pastoral Theme of the year ‘Follow Me’.
The culmination of the sacred music presentation was the singing of ‘Ruzari Saibinni’, seeking the intercession of Mother Mary to protect Cardinal Ferrao.
