PORVORIM
Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Khaunte called upon the doctors to adopt a service-oriented approach while discharging their duties as medical practitioners.
“The job of doctor does not end by prescribing medicines but they should also advise patients about the medical care,” said Khaunte.
He was speaking at a mega health camp organised by the Socorro panchayat and Porvorim Rising in association with RG Stone Urology and Laparoscopy Hospital, Porvorim.
“In general, people go to a doctor when they are ill. Very few people do health check-ups regularly. Women are now into demanding jobs like managerial positions, heads of institutions, administration, media, science, academics, research etc, but they are also expected to be good home-makers.”
“They take care of other family members but do not bother about their health. Members of Self Help Groups are seldom found going to doctors for health checkups. It is for these women the health camps are very important. The woman is the backbone of her family and hence, she should regularly do her health check,” said Khaunte.
Dr Vardhan Bhobe also advised about the importance of regular health checkups to keep oneself fit.
Socorro Sarpanch Soniya Pednekar welcomed the gathering and the mega health camp was conducted for the benefit of people, especially women, who don’t get time to go to the hospital or primary centre for health checkups.
