Anjuna Police cracked a theft case within 12 hours and on Monday arrested the thief from Karnataka and recovered six mobile phones and four smartwatches from him.
The accused, Shrikant D (27) of Shivmoga-Karnataka has been remanded to four days in police custody.
According to police, some tourists from Surat, Gujarat had come down to Goa on a vacation and were staying in a villa at Baga, Arpora. On Sunday morning they noticed that their mobile phones and smartwatches all worth Rs 7.5 lakh were missing and therefore lodged a complaint against unknown persons.
During the course of the investigation, Anjuna Police used local intelligence and technical surveillance to track the accused in Karnataka.
In an overnight operation, a police team left for Udupi-Karnataka and took the accused Shrikant D into custody and brought him to Goa.
Six mobile phones and four smartwatches were recovered from the accused.
The Anjuna Police team was led by PI Prashal Dessai, PSI Sahil Warang, Police Constables Praveen Patil, Adarsh Nagekar, Deepesh Chodankar, Rama Parab, Omkar Tari, Satyendra Nasnodkar, Sachin Bhomkar, Sagar Naik and Baptist Mascaranhas.
