Despite being in the Opposition, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira continues to push forward with development works in his constituency, with several road and infrastructure projects being implemented under the MLA Local Area Development (MLA-LAD) scheme.
On Wednesday, Ferreira inaugurated the repair works of a footpath in Calvim, which was washed out during the recent monsoon.
The project, covering the stretch from Abi Mendes House to Ana Maria House and adjoining areas in Ward No 9 of the Aldona Village Panchayat, has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 19.4 lakh and is expected to be completed within 90 days.
Ferreira said the work was crucial as residents were facing daily hardships due to the damaged pathway.
“Another five roads worth Rs 24 lakh will also be taken up under the MLA-LAD scheme. We aim to complete these works with the cooperation of the people,” he said.
The MLA also expressed gratitude to the PWD engineers and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who was then holding the PWD portfolio, for approving the proposals.
“Development in Aldona is happening steadily, step by step, despite political differences,” Ferreira noted, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring that essential works in the constituency do not stall due to party lines.
