Stating that aligning with Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) during the recently held Assembly polls was a huge mistake made on part of Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM), most of the key party workers opined that GSM in future should not align with any party and contest independently.
Most of the party workers vent this opinion during the first post-election meeting of main party workers across all constituencies held to review the Party’s achievements and the way forward. The four-hour long marathon meeting was held on Sunday in Porvorim which was attended by about 80 key workers.
The meeting also resolved to restructure its committees in 32 constituencies by May 20 and hold a convention of these committees on May 28.
Sources present at the meeting informed that when they were asked in the presence of Subhash Velingkar, if the party should continue with its work in the future, they opined that it should continue.
“Most of them were of the opinion that it was a huge error on part of GSM to have a pre-poll alliance with MGP and would have performed better if it had to go single”, informed sources.
Speaking to The Goan after the meeting, Party President Anand Shirodkar said, “During the meeting, we discussed the achievements of the Party during the recently held polls and the way forward. We had fielded five candidates but none of them got elected. The impact of the MoI agitation was so much that even MGP felt that if they align with us, many of their candidates would get elected. So they left BJP and joined hands with us, which was our biggest achievement. If they had to not do so, BJP MLAs would not have reduced from 21 to 13.”
During the recently held polls, GSM had aligned with MGP and Shiv Sena and fielded candidates in 35 constituencies across the State.
