Sancoale Panchayat Sarpanch Girish Pillai has said the government’s new circular to allot house numbers to “unauthorised” structures would help people get electricity and water connections, while also generating revenue to local bodies like panchayats.
Speaking to reporters after he was felicitated at a function in Zuarinagar for resolving the water supply problem, Pillai said people would earlier get water and electricity connections on health grounds.
"It was a tedious exercise and people had to go to Cortalim, submit their files and apply for NOC. Panchayats could not issue the connection as these houses did not pay house tax.”
“With the government’s recent circular, house numbers can be allotted to “unauthorised” structures and it is clearly mentioned that these houses are not being legalised but are just being given a house number.”
“This move will help people get house numbers, electrical and water connections, while also generating revenue for the panchayat,” said Pillai.
The sarpanch said there are five wards in the Zuarinagar area from the nine wards of Sancoale Panchayat.
“While we carried out development, we were not getting any revenue from this area. Now with house numbers being allotted to these structures, we can get house tax and the same revenue can help us pursue development across all wards in the village," said Pillai.
He said there had been water supply issues in Zuarinagar for many years and with the problem escalating in the last few months, the panchayat would send two tankers to the affected areas on a daily basis.
“We recently got a separate water pipeline with a bigger diameter for water supply and the issue has been resolved now.”
Panch member Arish Kadar said the panchayat will also undertake 18 projects worth around Rs 60 lakh across all wards in the village.
