CANACONA
Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes on Friday launched the Rs 1.3 crore repair work on the Bhatpal culvert bridge along the NH66 highway.
The Bhatpal culvert bridge, which was constructed with stones during the Portuguese colonial era, has deteriorated badly over the years.
Addressing a gathering, Fernandes said the Bhatpal culvert bridge had witnessed several mishaps in the past and had become weak, posing a threat to motorists and locals.
“The repair of this Bhatpal bridge is a gift from union minister Nitin Gadkari who has attended to our proposal, especially along the Polem-Gulem stretch of the NH66 highway.”
“Gadkari was also instrumental in giving us the Manohar Parrikar Canacona 4-lane Bypass, and had even sanctioned Rs 12 crore for road-widening and hotmixing the Polem-Gulem NH66 highway via Poinguinim. All this is happening also because of our Chief Minister Pramod Sawant,” said Fernandes.
Others present on the occasion included former Shristhal sarpanch and panch Devendra Naik, Poinguinim deputy sarpanch, Canacona Councillor Shubham Komarpant, PWD (highway) engineers and officers.
