The Revolutionary Goans have been drumming up support for the protest against the amendment to TCP Act, to be held outside the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department in Panaji on Friday.
Several ward-level meetings have been organised in the St Andre constituency, which is represented by RG MLA Viresh Borkar.
In the past few days, meetings have been organised in Nauxim, Curca, Moula and other areas in the constituency, where the Revolutionary Goans are having a sizeable presence.
Speaking at one of the meetings at Moula-Curca on Tuesday night, St Andre MLA Borkar informed that the TCP Act amendment will spell doom for Goa and Goans as it seeks to bring in large and unwanted projects like golf courses, film cities, film studios, yoga and meditation centres, and various other projects.
“Further, the amendment will also allow projects to come up in fields and low-lying areas, which will lead to flooding of such areas,” said the MLA and appealed to people to turn up in large numbers at the protest on Friday to ensure that the amendment is scrapped.
“If you want to save Goa for future generations, you will have to rise against such decisions of the government,” he added.
RG supremo Manoj Parab said Goans will become strangers in their own land as huge skyscrapers will dot the Goan landscape if the amendment is allowed to go through.
“As it is, Goans are lacking infrastructure facilities like water, power supply, good roads, etc. And when these projects come up, we will be the worst sufferers as all the facilities will be diverted to the residents of these projects,” Parab said and urged the people to raise their voice before it is too late.
“It is time to raise our voices to ensure that our future generations do not suffer,” Parab stated while urging the locals to remain present at the protest in huge numbers.
“We can force the government from going ahead with the amendment by showing our strength through numbers,” Parab opined.
Curca locals urged to be vigilant against golf course proponents
OLD GOA: Even as the Revolutionary Goans are preparing for a long-drawn battle against the amendment to TCP Act, it has come to light that golf course proponents have applied for permissions for building projects in Moula-Curca.
Revealing this at the meeting, both MLA Viresh Borkar and Manoj Parab urged the locals to be vigilant against such proponents and not allow the Curca panchayat to grant them licences.
“The fortnightly meeting of the panchayat will be held on September 26 and the locals should remain present for the meeting to oppose these projects,” MLA Borkar informed.
“If the golf course proponents are allowed to go ahead with their projects, there will be a direct fallout on the villagers who will face the consequences in the future in terms of facilities like water, power, etc,” Parab pointed out and urged the locals to oppose the projects now or never.
