MARGAO
With the authorities notifying a yellow alert with heavy rains predicted in many places in the State in the next few days, the Margao Municipal Council has capped the chambers with concrete to stop sewage from overflowing on the building pavement.
The chamber had stopped overflowing after the rains had subsided over the last few days resulting in the stoppage in the backflow of water from the underground sewage line.
Aware that the municipality had to face the brickbats after the City fathers and the Babus turned a blind eye when the chambers were overflowing with raw sewage for around a month, the MMC seemed to have decided to cap the chamber with concrete.
Once beaten, twice shy, so goes the saying and the MMC seemed to have adopted the temporary measure to ensure that sewage does not overflow on the pavement with the monsoon season not over yet.
“Capping of the sewage chambers is just a temporary measure, which has been put in place till the monsoons. The concrete can be opened if the need arises when the chamber gets choked,” the official added.
