Around 69 Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM) nurses whose contract has not been renewed by the government have demanded extension of their contracts.
"We have been working for more than two years on contract and suddenly our contract has not been renewed. Government should at least extend our services", said a ANM nurse.
We had given good service in difficult times of Covid, she added.
Some people are advising us to join private hospitals, however ANM nurses are not recruited by the private hospitals, she said.
These ANM nurses were taken on one year contract in October 2019. Then their contract was extended for two more years. However the contract which ended in the first week of April has not been renewed by the Government.
"Contracts are approved by the government and if the government approves the contract then definitely will put them back into service again", said Director of Health Services Dr Geeta Kakodkar.
Salaries are disbursed after approval from the government, she added.
