Yet another college in Goa -- Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao -- got awarded ‘A’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore and ranked ninth among 64 colleges accredited at the national level.According to the College's principal Prof D B Arolkar, the NAAC peer team inspected the College on December 1- 2 this year and commended it for creating a perfect ecosystem for innovation and generation of new knowledge through research.
The College was also singled out for praise for honing leadership skills in students through innovative programmes.
Over the last five years, 43 per cent of its students were either placed through campus recruitment or are pursuing higher education, and 14 students have established their own start-ups, Prof Arolkar said.
The campus of the College is located on a sprawling parcel of 80,000 square metres of land atop the Assagao hillock.
According to the report of the NAAC's 'peer team', the institution's laboratories are well-equipped, solar powered and facilities developed for skill development have resulted in students bringing laurels at university level championships.
A number of students also participated in national and international events.
Arolkar said, the College has consistently designed new initiatives to ensure best education in Goa over the last two decades.
"Internship, career guidance programmes, guidance for competitive exams, placement, ICT enabled teaching-learning evaluation, conduct of developmental programmes in 5 villages adopted under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan among other initiatives had contributed to the overall development of the College," he added.
Alorna, Cassarvornem, Assagao, Hasapur and Chandel villages are adopted by the College and awareness programmes in health and hygiene, organic farming and capacity development have been conducted for panchayat bodies, Self Help Groups and school students and teachers.
Arolkar said the college also conducts short term certificate courses in tally, banking, finance and insurance, software analysis, GST, Internet of Things, home automation and others to provide additional skills to students.
The college is a pioneer in starting MSc (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) and MSc (Environmental Science) programmes in Goa.
