Four days after the Konkan railway police effected a major seizure of gutka at the Margao railway station, the police has on Tuesday another big consigned of banned tobacco product having “Chaini” mark, worth around Rs 14 lakh.
Unlike last time, when the consignment of 56 gunny bags of gutka was brought in by the Rajdhani Express from Rajasthan, the consignment containing 15 bags of tobacco products came in at the Margao railway station by the Goa Express train.
Acting on a tip off, the Konkan railway police headed by Superintendent of Police, Sammy Tavares had maintained vigil at the Margao railway station, anticipating the arrival of the consignment of the banned tobacco products.
The consignment of 15 gunny bags was found at the parcel room of the Margao railway station. The gang involved in importing the banned products seemed to have adopted a novel modus operandi to get the consignment unloaded at the Margao railway station.
Unlike the previous case, when the consignment was unloaded at the Margao railway station by a clearing agent, no such agent was employed by the parties to get the consignment at the parcel room.
Police inquiries have only revealed that the consignment was unloaded from the train and brought to the parcel room with the help and assistance of porters and loaders, giving no clue to the police about the persons who had brought the consignment to Goa.
SP, Tavares, however, informed that the Konkan railway police is on the job to find out details on the persons, who had sent the consignment and for whom it was to be delivered. He said the consignment which came to the Margao railway station by the Goa Express from Odisha is in the name of a person, who has shown his address at the main market, Margao.
The Konkan railway police has registered a case.
