Gutka case: Police oppose anticipatory bail

MARGAO
The Konkan Railway police station has vehemently opposed the anticipatory bail application by a suspect in the Rs 23 lakh gutka case, with the police saying the applicant is required to be arrested in the crime to thoroughly interrogate him in the case.

The South Goa Sessions Court on Tuesday heard arguments on the anticipatory bail application and has reserved the orders for Wednesday.

Opposing the anticipatory bail application, the police said the applicant is required in custody to trace out the three accused persons in whose names the parcels were addressed sent.

The police further contended that the applicant is required in custody to trace out the source from where the applicant had procured the consignment. The police has submitted that the applicant is required in custody to find out whether he is involved in any inter-state gang involved in the supply of banned tobacco products, including pan masala, gutka, etc.
