The Orixtt Porjecho Awaz (OPA), which is opposing the transfer of land acquired for industry by the government at Betul-Naqueri to the Ministry for Defence, GoI, for organising the DefExpo and Aero-India shows, will be organising a public meeting on December 21, at Lohia Maidan, Margao at 3.30 pm.

The public meeting is called to protest this anti-people development policy of the Goa government which will adversely impact and disrupt the lives of the people from Canaguinim, Naqueri, Betul and Khola and surrounding villages and also to send a strong message to the elected representatives that they were elected to do what the people at large want them to do (as per peoples wishes) and not what they want to do (as per their wishes).

The affected villagers of Canaguinim, Naqueri, Betul and Cola have come together under the banner of 'Orixtt Porjecho Avaz' to oppose and resist the government’s above mentioned project which will not benefit locals nor Goans in any way, but on the contrary it will adversely impact not only the residents of Naqueri, Betul panchayats but also the villages in and around 8-10 kms of this project. A number of villages around Naqueri-Betul have objected to this project and have taken resolutions in the gram sabhas condemning and objecting the government’s decision. The villagers under the banner of OPA already held a protest demonstration at Quepem on December 4, which was well attended.

The OPA appeals to all citizens concerned about the future of Goa and Goans which is threatened by such anti-people and anti-environment policies of the government to show their solidarity by attending this public meeting in large numbers.
