The one-and-a-half-month festive window, when Dussehra and Diwali traditionally bring a rush to jewellery shops, shopping centres and automobile showrooms, gave Goa’s vehicle market a considerable lift.
The State recorded 9,232 new vehicle registrations in October alone, its highest monthly tally of 2026 so far, as buyers made room in their festive budgets for two-wheelers and cars.
The Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways recorded that two-wheelers accounted for the bulk of October’s registrations at 6,371 (nearly 69 % of the monthly total) while cars’ registrations stood at 1,985 (a little over one-fifth of the total). Electric vehicles, too, found a sizeable number of buyers, pointing to a market that is gradually widening its fuel choices.
Together, the two categories accounted for 8,356 of the 9,232 vehicles registered during the month, while the remaining were commercial and other vehicle segments.
With Diwali on Sunday, November 8, the second major festival in this shopping season also brought another round of activity to showrooms.
The November figures, so far, already showed 3,161 vehicle registrations with two-wheelers again leading the tally at 2,270, followed by 667 cars. Together, they accounted for 2,937 registrations.
Commercial transport also found buyers during the festive period. October saw 293 goods carriers, 256 motor cabs, 202 bikes for hire, 32 maxi cabs and 31 buses. The November tally so far included 93 goods carriers, 56 motor cabs, 28 two-wheelers for hire, 15 buses and 13 maxi cabs.
Beyond the numbers on vehicle purchases, the data offered an interesting glimpse into the changing fuel preferences of buyers.
Petrol E20-powered vehicles dominated October registrations, with 6,114 vehicles, accounting for around 66 percent of the total. Pure electric vehicles followed with 1,133 registrations, while conventional petrol vehicles accounted for 935 and diesel vehicles for 501.
The November figures recorded 2,154 registrations for petrol E20 vehicles, followed by conventional petrol vehicles at 354 and pure electric vehicles at 341. Diesel registrations stood at 187.
The larger annual picture, meanwhile, shows how much ground the vehicle market has covered. Goa has registered 80,523 vehicles so far in 2026, just 5,820 short of the 86,343 registrations recorded during the whole of 2025.
