Has any of the 1,500-odd applicants received any communiqué from the Margao Municipal Council for the examination including the Computer-Based Test for the 11 posts of Lower Divisional Clerks (LDCs), one site supervisor and a mason?
No, not yet, till date even though it’s now exactly two months since hundreds of job applicants had queued up at the Margao Municipal building to submit their applications before the last date on October 11.
And, there’s a reason behind the delay. For, inquiries have revealed that leave alone sending calls to the job aspirants for a written examination, the Margao Municipality is yet to sort out and sign the hundreds of applications received for the posts of LDCs, site supervisor and mason till date.
If sources are to be believed, the 1,500-odd applications are secured in the cupboard housed in the chamber of Margao Civic Chief Damu Shirodkar. In fact, there is no clarity in the corridors of the Margao Municipal building how the civic body will go about the exercise of conducting examinations to shortlist the candidates for the vacant posts.
When The Goan called up Margao Municipal Chief Officer Melvyn Vaz to shed light on the process for the recruitment of the 11 LDCs, besides site supervisor and a mason, he said he is in the process of signing each and every application received from the applicants.
He further said the MMC will soon take a call how to go about the conducting the examination for the vacant posts, saying the civic body is weighing various options. Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar also echoed similar sentiments by saying the civic body have shortlisted two agencies to carry forward the recruitment process.
The names of the shortlisted agencies to conduct the examinations seemed under wraps for reasons best known to the Municipal authorities. Given that the MMC has no wherewithal to conduct the computer-based test and to hold the examination, sources said the civic body will have to rely on the government polytechnics or engineering colleges to conduct the test on behalf of the Municipality.
The slow pace with which the civic body is moving with the recruitment process has only thrown up a question or two when the MMC had moved with alacrity to advertise the posts without roping in the Staff Selection Commission to fill up the vacant posts. “It is surprising that the MMC is going slow in taking the recruitment process to the logical conclusion. October 11 was the last date to submit the application forms. How many more months will it take for the civic body to send calls to the candidates for the written examination. The MMC should also come clear on the agencies shortlisted by the civic body to conduct the computer-based test and other examinations”, remarked a citizen.
