Aqua Goa Fish Festival at Campal from Feb 10

Goa will host the sixth edition of the Aqua Goa Fish Festival at the SAG grounds in Campal from February 10 to 12 aimed at giving fish production and ancillary economic activity a boost.

On Friday, Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar flagged off two ‘awareness vehicles’ which will travess across the State to promote the festival.

Flagging off the vehicles, Halarnkar said that this year’s edition of the festival will lay emphasis on the dissemination of scientific data and knowhow of fisheries for the benefit of local fishermen and entrepreneurs. 

Halarnkar added that this year’s fish festival will be a mega event and will showcase Goa’s rich culture and amazing underwater life. 

The three-day extravaganza will have an aquarium fish gallery, commercial stalls, live fish pond among other features. Contests for children, adults and fishermen association, entertainment programmes and seminars will also be conducted.

Fisheries Secretary Arun Kumar Mishra, IAS, and Fisheries Director, ShamilaMonteiro also participated in flagging off the awareness vehicles. The festival will be open from 10 am to 10 pm on each of the three days.

The Directorate of Fisheries initiated this festival to promote Goa’s rich fish culture, thefishing industry as a whole and to create awareness about it among the general public. 

It aims to provide a common platform for stakeholders to come together and build strategies for a strong economy in the fisheries sector.

Halarnkar meanwhile said eminent speakers and scientists from various prestigious institutions will be available for consultation at the festival.

He hoped that Goa’s fishing community, fish farmers, entrepreneurs and all associated in the sector will participate in the festival.
