MARGAO
Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Melvyn Vaz has come under the spotlight following a directive from the Urban Development Department to take immediate action against unauthorised gaddas obstructing the footpath near the Electricity Department office at Aquem.

Acting on a High Court order, Deputy Director of Urban Development Nadia Shekoli has issued instructions to Vaz, mandating the removal of the illegal structures within three days of receiving the communication.

The directive follows a complaint from the Land Acquisition Cell of the Electricity Department, which flagged the presence of encroaching stalls hindering pedestrian and operational access to the area.

In response, Vaz told the media on Thursday evening that his office had already initiated action. Notices have been served to gadda owners, instructing them to clear the footpath within seven days. He confirmed that three of the five stall owners had already been issued notices and that the MMC had begun legal procedures to ensure compliance and clear the encroachments.
