Say waste stacked at facility poses health hazard

This may sound strange, but true that a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is installed to facilitate the segregation and disposal of waste.
Welcome to Aquem Baixo village where waste has been not only been found stacked inside the MRF facility, but the waste is found dumped outside as well.
In fact, Sunday saw villagers of Aquem-Baixo demanding a probe into the functioning of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) facility installed in the village as part of the garbage management and fix responsibility on the contractor.
Former Sarpanch Damu Naik along with Panchayat member Inacio Dias told the media that the waste stacked inside and outside the MRF facility is posing a health hazard to the neighbouring residents as well as the students studying in a school located in the vicinity.
Damu pointed that the Panchayat should immediately intervene and resolve the issue at the earliest.
Panch member Inacio Dias said the Panchayat should either get the contractor work as per the laid down conditions or opt for a new contactor to take the garbage management forward. “This MRF facility was constructed on the WRD land with NOC for a period of one year. The panchayat was supposed to engage a contractor to take up the garbage collection and disposal work as per the laid down guidelines. We fail to understand how come the waste is stacked inside the MRF and dumped outside the premises. This has to stop. The Panchayat should find a way out”, he said.
He pointed out that officials of the Goa State Pollution Control Board had inspected the site and had asked for some documents, but in vain.
