The Archdiocese of Goa and Daman has announced that the annual walking pilgrimage to Sancoale will take place on February 22, starting at 3 am from designated stations across the state. This year’s theme is “Kristachim Pattlavdaram, Bhorvanxeachim Yatrekaram” – “Followers of Christ, Pilgrims of Hope.”
Inviting devotees, the Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao, said the pilgrimage is more than a physical walk.
He called it a journey of the soul, carried out in a spirit of penance and unity as a Church. He said participants will have opportunities for Eucharistic sharing, communal prayer, Scripture reflection, adoration and other devotions, helping them grow spiritually while walking together.
Five main stations have been arranged: Bambolim Cross, Neura Panchayat, Verna Church, Cansaulim Church and Vasco Church. Sub-stations with medical aid will be available at Agacaim Church, Cortalim Sontrant near the chapel, Jubilate at Velsao and Sheela Bar near Sao Jacinto Island.
Cardinal Ferrao said many pilgrims have experienced healing of body and spirit. He honoured the patroness, Our Lady of Health, and thanked St Joseph Vaz, urging the faithful to renew faith, strengthen hope and deepen love through service.
