Irate villagers of Sao Jose de Areal on Wednesday issued a warning that they will not allow road digging to lay underground electric cables unless and until the agencies and the contractor reinstate the dug-up roads.
As a number of road accidents have taken place on the Mugali Road in the village, which was excavated for laying underground electric cables, the residents demanded immediate reinstatement of the excavated roads to avoid accidents.
Officials of the Electricity Department, PWD, and a representative of the contractor executing the work of laying underground electric cables were invited to have a first-hand experience of the damaged roads.
Social activist Freddy Travasso later told the media that the officials had seen for themselves how the roads pose danger to motorists, especially two-wheeler riders.
“We have seen continuous accidents on the damaged roads. We have now told the contractor to reinstate the excavated roads, or the villagers will not allow further digging of roads in the village,” Freddy warned.
